NRLA
The Nottingham Road Farmers’ Association, founded in 1887, is a significant historical agricultural society in South Africa that has evolved into the Nottingham Road Landowners’ Association (NRLA). The association was instrumental in establishing the town’s community hall in 1933 and continues to be an important community hub.
The NRLA now functions as a mouthpiece and lobbying body, uniting farmers, landowners, and residents to protect and promote shared community interests and the region’s agricultural heritage.
Community Through Unity. The NRLA offers a shared identity where residents, businesses, and organisations come together for mutual benefit and shared pride for our Nottingham Road community.
History and Evolution
Founding
The association was founded by 11 prominent citizens in October 1887 at the Railway Hotel, aiming to support local farmers and organize monthly stock sales.
Community Hall
A long-term project, the association’s meeting hall opened in December 1933 and serves as a venue for meetings, the local library, and other functions.
Modernization
The association has transitioned into the Nottingham Road Landowners’ Association (NRLA), broadening its scope to represent the interests of all local residents, not just farmers.
